Recovering Temp Files on a Mac
Updated over 10 months ago

The first place to check on your device for a recovery version on a Mac is your Downloads folder. Usually these files are deleted, however it is worth a check just in case!

If there is no file in your Downloads, you can check the temporary files. To do this please perform the below:

1) Open Finder
2) Click Go > Go to Folder from the top menu bar.
3) Type in "/private/var" and hit Enter.

4) Open the Folders folder

In here are randomly named cache folders, so we might need to do a bit of searching about.

Open the folders (such as "pp" or "zz" and look for another folder that was modified about the same time you last had your document open.

Open this folder (it will be called something like "wd_sufns98734lkjsdf987" etc.), and look for a folder called "T"

Open the T folder and look for another folder which will be named the title of your document.

Within there, there should be a backup of the document if it was not able to be saved back correctly.
