Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) via the Google Chrome Authentication application will be mandatory on iinsight® as of:
1st February 2020. |
If a user does not have an Android or OSX compatible smart phone or device, it is possible for them to utilise MFA via a Google Chrome browser extension instead.
Using a browser extension does not give the same level of security as if controlled via the mobile app, and also it will lock the access / generation of the MFA code to the device the browser extension is connected to. As such it is still advised where possible to have users use a smart phone / mobile device where possible and utilise the above information as a last resort only.
One example of such an extension is Authenticator* available for free by a Third party in the Chrome Web Store via the link below:

To install the extension into Google Chrome all you need to do is choose Add to Chrome from the link above:
And then Add extension to confirm the installation into the browser:
When this is installed you will have an icon visible at the top right of the browser window for the Authenticator extension:
The first time that a user accesses the system when MFA is turned on they will be presented with a QR Code to scan.
The Authenticator extension manages this by user having to simply the "Scan QR code" button at the top of the extension window and then dragging a box over the code with their mouse:
When they do this the Authenticator extension will read the QR code automatically and add in a new time limited code record for their iinsight login.
